DOUG FOSTER
GUITARS - Brisbane, Queensland, Australia
Doug was a local Brisbane luthier who was very interested in
the principles of guitar construction developed by Mario
Maccaferri. He even had a top from an original Maccaferri
guitar, which showed the bracing system used on them - it
had been given to him by the luthier who had taught him how
to build guitars. He had made a number of six string guitars
in this style and he had even experimented with making
Selmer Maccaferri four string models, including his version
of the Eddie Freeman Special.
However, Doug had never made a four string guitar with a
tenor scale length of 23 inches before he built this one.
This guitar is very special to me, particularly since Doug
has now passed on. He was a fascinating enthusiastic, lively
and energetic man with a wide range of interests, including
long distance cycling, who, when I knew him, was in his late
70s/early 80s.
If you have any enquiries about the guitars below or would like
to purchase any, please email Steve using the
icon at
the end of the description of each guitar.

Maccaferri style tenor
This was my very first tenor guitar - the general dimensions and
scale length were based on the Martin 0-18T. I later had an
under-saddle Fishman pick up fitted to it. Click each photo for a
